About me!

Hello! I'm Daisy, a 19 year old, semi-professional portrait artist from Greater Manchester, specialising in oil paints.

My passion definitely lies in creating art, from a simple compulsion to doodle as a little girl, to the way it has become my therapy and means of connecting to the people and the world around me, with so much yet to learn and explore and techniques to try, art feels like my key to the universe. My dad likes to reminisce about the time he 'talent-spotted' 3-year-old me because I put light in an eye in a drawing. I think the pictures have got better but the urge to absorb the essence of a person or place, or music, and distil them into some simple marks on a canvas is the same. I particularly love painting my favourite musicians while listening to their work - as loud as possible! Up until June 2020, I had restricted my self into only using coloured or graphite pencils, but after discovering my love for oil paints I have non-stop experimented and worked to discover what methods of creating paintings are the best for me!

Lockdown has been tough, but the removal of external influences and need to find a distraction to focus on has also provided so many opportunities to develop as an artist. Following the loss in the summer of my Grandad, whose constant presence and belief in my abilities had been a huge support, I also made the decision to follow his wishes and started accepting painting commissions. My first painting in oils was of my Grandad, and I find it a huge comfort that art has enabled me to capture his smiling face and keep his memory alive. On the days during lockdown when I felt at a particularly low ebb I painted my pictures as a form of therapy, and it truly helped. It just goes to show, no matter what is happening in your life, art is always a constant. I'm certain that venturing into commissioned work has been far more beneficial than I ever anticipated.I've honed my ability to push myself and developed a much greater resilience in making artwork.
